What is Health Coaching?

'Health and wellness coaching is a science and an art form, not just a process.  Fundamentally, health & wellness coaching encompasses the sciences of positive psychology, behaviour change, nutrition, exercise and lifestyle medicine with the dynamic art of relationships, teamwork and community.' Health Coaching is becoming an established area of practice in the New Zealand healthcare sector.  The traditional model of care is under pressure treating illness and disease.  For the future of the health system and the optimal health of the population the focus on prevention rather than cure is increasingly important.

 

Health Coaching complements the traditional model of healthcare, with a focus on preventative medicine, lifestyle medicine and looking at the person as a whole.  The Health Coaching model recognises that patients are the expert in their own life and that one area of health cannot be treated sustainably without consideration of all areas. 

 

Behaviour change is hard. A Health Coach uses techniques and tools to connect with a client's emotions and values.  Because all our behaviours as humans are driven by our emotions and values in some form, Health Coaching harnesses this power to guide people to make effective positive behaviour change. 

Change is not a straight path, it is one that can be messy and hard but with great rewards and possibilities.

When to engage a Health Coach?

 

A Health Coach can provide support if you;

  • Feel overwhelmed, stressed or anxious.

  • Are pre or post surgery.  

  • Have a diagnosis of chronic illness or inflammation, such as Diabetes or pre Diabetes.

  • Are in rehabilitation after illness or injury.

  • Want to form healthy habits.

  • Want support for weight loss, dietary changes or exercise and movement implementation.

  • Are struggling with decision making. 

  • Want things to be better but are not sure where to start.

Engaging with a Health Coach is beneficial at any time you want to take stock of your health and wellbeing. 

  • If you are going through a change in health circumstances. 

  • If you know you need to make changes but are struggling to take action.

  • If you would like support to look at things in a new way, or to make space to explore any areas of your life.

About Me, Hello!

I am Caroline Searle, a Health Coach, Yoga facilitator and curious being. I have had a life long interest in the human body and mind, forever reading, listening and delving into what makes up the human experience. 

 

I studied a BSc in Nutrition and BCom in Marketing many years ago. After a career in Marketing and a decade primarily at home with my three children, I embarked on a Prekure Health Coaching Certificate and 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training. 

 

With a passion for people, their stories and the wellbeing of all, together with my experience from all aspects of my life, I am committed to guiding people towards their health and lifestyle goals.   

My practice is based on the foundations for health; sleep, movement, nutrition, stress management and connection.  I acknowledge and consider the whole person, where they are at right now and WHY they want or need to make change.

I believe in cultivating awareness and empowering others and that every body deserves access to the knowledge and tools to truly be active participants in their health and wellbeing.  

Being intentional about the decisions we make when it comes to all aspects of our lifestyle and ultimately our health is essential.
